2024 Fischoff Competition Grand Prize and Senior Strings Gold Medal Winner Trio Azura returns to the Midwest for their Gold Medal Tour!
Trio Azura was founded in 2022 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, USA. violinist DunVan McDougall, cellist Yejin Hong, and pianist Yanfeng (Tony) Bai, currently study with renowned faculty Fabio Bidini, Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith. Trio Azura won the Grand Prize and Gold Medal in the 51st Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. As part of the grand prize, the trio will complete tours in the US Midwest and Italy. Trio Azura was also awarded the Lift Every Voice Prize for the best performance of a work by an underrepresented composer, and the Horszowski Trio Prize, with an invitation to the Mimir Festival in Fort Worth, Texas.
The word Azura comes from the color azure blue, and represents their school color and their musical sensitivity. Despite being formed only recently, Trio Azura has built an incredible chemistry and developed a comprehensive repertoire. They are active performers in Los Angeles; concert engagements have included the Colburn School’s weekly recital and chamber music series, as well as other venues such as St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and The California Club. They have participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists, such as pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Orion Weiss and Pedja Mužijević, and cellist Nicholas Tzavaras. In 2023, Trio Azura participated in the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where they were awarded the “Rotary Club of Siena” scholarship and performed in recital with Clive Greensmith. Trio Azura was also selected to participate in the 2023 ARD International Music Competition. Individually, they have won numerous accolades.
Music aside, they enjoy finding the most delicious food in town as a post-rehearsal treat.
