Chamber Music Summer Intensive

Fischoff’s Summer Chamber Music Intensive, in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame, supports young musicians as they dive deeply into the world of chamber music. Students will work intimately in small ensembles to strengthen both performance and life skills such as collaboration, communication, leadership, respect, and creative problem-solving through chamber music.

The program is open to students entering grade 6 and above who are intermediate to advanced players of strings, brass, winds, and piano. Enrollment is limited, ensuring that each participant receives a personalized experience in a collegial atmosphere. Students will be grouped into trios, quartets, and quintets based upon their proficiency. They will work closely with Fischoff’s quartet-in-residence and professional musicians in a variety of settings, including chamber music coaching sessions, masterclasses, workshops, solo and ensemble performances, and community engagement opportunities. Students receive free admission to all faculty concerts, and the program finale will be a capstone performance of all participating ensembles in the LaBar Recital Hall at the University of Notre Dame’s O’Neill Hall of Music.

The Quartet has performed in concert halls, music festivals, and academic institutions across the United States and abroad, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Chamber Masters Series, and at festivals including the Chautauqua Institute, Interlochen Arts Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and the Emilia Romagna Festival. Parent Testimonials 2024

“This was the happiest I’ve seen my daughter all year: she came home on day 1 saying, “these are my people!” thank you for fostering community, inspiring engagement in music, and making a life of music feel accessible. I am especially grateful for the community aspect of the week, the kids were really kind and generous with one another.”

“The excellence of the coaches and staff was [my student’s] favorite part. He loved working with Lauren (Thalea String Quartet) and watching the incredible quartet and quintet performances. I enjoyed seeing the staff cheering and making the performers feel like rock stars at the final concert. Chamber music is such a fun way for kids to improve their musicianship and confidence, and you created a supportive and welcoming environment for every kid.”
